The European Union (EU) has announced a new plan to shape the future of technology both in Europe and around the world. This plan is called the International Digital Strategy. It was presented by the European Commission and the High Representative on June 5, 2025.
What Is the International Digital Strategy?
The International Digital Strategy is the EU’s roadmap for how it will work with other countries on digital technology. The EU wants to be a strong and trustworthy partner, ready to cooperate with allies and help them with their own digital growth. The plan comes at a time when technology is changing economies and societies everywhere.
Main Goals of the Strategy
The EU wants to boost its own strength in important technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity. At the same time, it will help other countries develop their digital skills and systems.
The EU aims to build a fair and rules-based digital world, following its core values such as democracy, human rights, and privacy.
How Will the EU Do This?
The EU will grow its international partnerships by making current digital partnerships stronger, starting new ones, and creating a Digital Partnership Network. This network will connect the EU with more countries to share ideas and work together on digital projects.
The EU will launch a Tech Business Offer, which means it will use both government and private investments to help other countries build up their digital tools. This includes support for AI Factories, secure internet connections, digital public services, and better cybersecurity.
The EU will promote a global digital order based on rules, so that everyone can benefit from technology in a safe and fair way.
Why Is This Important?
The EU believes that no country can handle big digital changes alone. By working with others, the EU and its partners can make sure technology is used for good, supports economic growth, and protects people’s rights. The EU also wants to make sure that digital tools are safe and trustworthy everywhere.
What Happens Next?
The success of the International Digital Strategy will depend on how well it is put into action. The EU is now starting to work with its partners to make these plans real and to lead the way in global digital cooperation.
