Dubai is on the cusp of crafting sporting history with the inaugural World Triathlon Women’s Cup scheduled for December 7, 2025, at the stunning Dubai Islands. This prestigious event is organized by the Dubai Sports Council in collaboration with the UAE Triathlon Federation and will be officially overseen by World Triathlon, the sport’s global authority.
This competition marks a significant advancement for women’s sports in the UAE, activating the “Sheikha Hind Women’s Sports Campaign” aimed at enhancing female participation in competitive sports. The event mirrors Dubai’s vision for a robust, inclusive sports landscape.
Integral to the Dubai Sports Sector Strategic Plan 2033, this Women’s Cup is a cornerstone initiative for transforming the emirate into a preeminent global sports hub. The strategy advocates for four core pillars: boosting sports clubs, fostering talent, engaging the community, and enhancing Dubai’s international sporting stature.
The comprehensive strategy encompasses 19 programs and 75 initiatives, projected to generate approximately AED 18.3 billion for Dubai's economy by 2033. Hosting significant global sporting events like this triathlon plays a crucial role in reaching these objectives.
DP World has stepped up as the official partner for this landmark occasion, signifying its dedication to advancing women in sports. Dubai Holding will host the event, and Dubai Sports Channel will act as the official broadcaster to facilitate widespread coverage.
Abdulla Bin Damithan, CEO and Managing Director of DP World GCC, expressed pride in supporting this groundbreaking global contest, underscoring the ability of sports to build confidence, foster health, and create new avenues for women. He invited participants globally, asserting that Dubai Islands will provide an inspiring backdrop for the triathlon.
Preparations are already underway, with increased coordination efforts among organizers to ensure seamless execution. Various stakeholders including World Triathlon, UAE Triathlon Federation, Dubai Sports Channel, Dubai Police, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), and Dubai Holding are involved, aiming to cultivate a safe and high-quality experience for athletes.
The competition will feature all three essential triathlon disciplines: swimming, cycling, and running, arranged in five categories to accommodate a wide range of participants from professionals to novices.
An elite category will be designated for professional competitors, while an amateur sprint category will include a 750-meter swim, 20 kilometers of cycling, and a 5-kilometer run. For beginners and age-group athletes, a super-sprint category will feature a 400-meter swim, 10 kilometers of cycling, and 2.5 kilometers of running.
These categories facilitate participation across different skill levels, promoting the experience of international sporting standards and skills enhancement.
This event is heralded as a significant milestone for the advancement of women’s sports in the region, showcasing Dubai's commitment to empowering women, advancing participation, and fostering an inclusive atmosphere. Themes surrounding women’s empowerment, global sports, triathlon challenges, athlete development, and sports innovation lie at the heart of the event.
By hosting the world’s first Women’s Triathlon Cup, Dubai communicates a powerful message regarding the necessity for global recognition, investment, and support for women’s sports, further aiming to inspire athletes as a prime location for global sports events.
