Global Outage Afflicts Claude AI, Disrupting Services Worldwide

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

On Tuesday, Claude, the AI chatbot by Anthropic, encountered a significant global outage that disrupted services for users across its website, desktop application, mobile app, and API platforms.

Outage tracking site Downdetector indicated a rapid spike in reports around midday, highlighting a broad service failure. Complaints flooded in almost immediately, showing that the issue spanned multiple regions and was not confined to specific user groups.

The service disruption impacted various elements of the Claude ecosystem. Analysis of outage data revealed that most users faced challenges accessing the primary website, while others reported difficulties with both desktop and mobile applications. Users noted failures in conversation loading, blank responses, and significant lags in platform performance.

Additionally, Claude's API services, crucial for businesses and developers integrating Anthropic's AI into their applications, were also affected. This led to interruptions and errors in numerous third-party tools relying on Claude.

Many users took to social media and online forums to express their frustrations, posting images of loading failures, error prompts, and non-responsive chatbot interactions.

Anthropic acknowledged the service issues through its official status page, noting that there were "elevated errors across multiple models." This incident has impacted several of its AI models, including Claude 3.5 Sonnet, Claude 3 Opus, and Claude 3 Haiku.

Later, the status was updated to "Identified," indicating that engineers had pinpointed the problem and were working diligently to implement solutions.

While a precise timeline for complete service restoration remains unclear, the outage has affected thousands globally, including professionals, students, and developers who depend on Claude for tasks such as coding, research, and content development.

As efforts continue to restore normalcy, users are left awaiting the full return of service across Claude's various platforms.
