The vibrant Sector 26 in Chandigarh became a scene of violence on Monday evening as gangster Inderpreet Singh, also known as Parry, was fatally shot in a carefully orchestrated, two-phase attack near the Timber Market. Surveillance footage captured the harrowing sequence: the initial shots were fired from within his vehicle, followed shortly by a barrage from an oncoming Hyundai Creta.
The violent episode occurred around 6:30 PM when Parry was leaving the Kala Ghoda Club with a companion in his Kia. Merely a kilometer into their drive, his passenger allegedly produced a firearm and shot him at close range, leaving five casings inside the vehicle. Almost immediately, a white Hyundai Creta carrying three to four attackers unleashed additional shots, confirming the lethal intent behind the ambush.
Bystanders rushed him to PGIMER, where he was pronounced dead by medical staff. Forensic analysis discovered multiple bullet impacts in the Kia, validating the exactness of the attack.
A Decade of Criminal Activity
At 35, Parry had amassed a significant criminal history in both Punjab and Chandigarh, facing charges that included murder, extortion, and illegal possession of firearms. The son of a retired Punjab Police sub-inspector, his notorious career spanned several well-publicized incidents, such as the Kotkapura killings and various extortion schemes targeting hotels and clubs. In March 2022, Chandigarh Police seized a Glock pistol and a US-manufactured rifle during a raid at his residence linked to extortion activities.
Roots of Gang Rivalry
Social media speculation following the incident indicates a possible connection to discord within the Lawrence Bishnoi-Goldy Brar gang network. Once an ally of Brar, Parry is rumored to have shifted allegiance amid factional disputes. Earlier this year, Brar announced a split from the Bishnoi group, escalating tensions. Experts suggest this killing could signify an ongoing territorial struggle, sending warning signals to rival faction supporters about possible retaliations.
Law Enforcement's Actions
Authorities in Chandigarh promptly secured borders with Mohali and Panchkula, initiating widespread search operations. The Crime Branch and Operations Cell are currently scrutinizing CCTV footage and tracing the Hyundai Creta's escape route, which is believed to have utilized a counterfeit license plate. Investigators are considering all potential scenarios, from gang rivalries to personal grievances and financial disputes.
