Four Arrested in Foiled New Year’s Eve Bomb Plot in California

Post by : Raina Nasser

Federal agents have arrested four individuals suspected of conspiring to execute coordinated bomb attacks in Southern California on New Year’s Eve. Law enforcement officials stated that the arrests thwarted a potentially deadly event aimed at major commercial sites during the festive period.

The suspects were apprehended in the Mojave Desert near Los Angeles under surveillance while allegedly preparing for the planned attacks. Authorities reported seeing the group handling suspicious materials before intervening, confirming that the arrests occurred before any explosive devices could be assembled.

The individuals charged have been identified as Audrey Illeene Carroll, 30, Zachary Aaron Page, 32, Dante Gaffield, 24, and Tina Lai, 41, all from the Los Angeles area. Investigators linked the group to an extremist anti-capitalist and anti-government ideology.

Officials revealed the suspects are tied to a faction advocating decolonization and tribal sovereignty, which promotes violent opposition to capitalism. During the investigation, flyers containing political messages associated with global protest movements were found at the campsite.

According to investigators, Carroll crafted a handwritten document detailing plans for attacks on at least five business locations in Southern California targeting large logistics centers similar to major online retail warehouses. These locations were affiliated with companies involved in significant interstate and international trade.

The plan, dubbed “Operation Midnight Sun,” included meticulous instructions for fabricating explosives and executing simultaneous detonations at midnight on New Year’s Eve, with the timing meant to coincide with fireworks displays that could obscure the sound of blasts.

Investigators noted that the operation entailed deploying backpacks containing complex pipe bombs in various locales. The handwritten plan indicated a potential for further targets to be added later. Communication about the strategy occurred both face-to-face and via encrypted messaging.

Authorities also uncovered discussions among two of the suspects regarding possible future attacks in 2026, which included targeting immigration enforcement personnel and vehicles with similar explosives.

During the search of the desert site, law enforcement discovered bomb-making materials such as PVC pipes, suspected chemical agents, charcoal, sulfur, and items believed to serve as fuses. It was noted that the suspects had procured precursor materials and other supplies online recently.

Search warrants carried out at the suspects’ residences revealed extremist propaganda and copies of the bomb formulation plans, highlighting slogans inciting violence against government entities.

Law enforcement agencies collaborated effectively to dismantle this plot, with officials emphasizing that the arrests were conducted without any incident. With the suspects equipped to create operational explosives, the threat was deemed both real and urgent.

All four suspects face charges of conspiracy and possession of a destructive device; additional charges may arise as the investigation progresses. The suspects are set to appear in a Los Angeles courtroom on Monday afternoon.

Authorities have hailed this operation as a significant achievement in averting a possible mass-casualty situation during one of the year’s peak celebrations. The investigation is ongoing, with officials committed to monitoring extremist activities for the safety of the public.
