Washington, D.C. — This Friday, the spotlight will shine bright as a constellation of the world’s premier athletes and entertainers gather for the 2026 FIFA World Cup draw. Featuring NFL icon Tom Brady and NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, the event is poised to deliver a captivating combination of athletic glory and entertainment spectacle.
On stage with them will be football star Rio Ferdinand, MLB slugger Aaron Judge, and hockey great Wayne Gretzky. This momentous occasion will set the stage for group placements of a record 64 nations, marking a significant increase as FIFA expands the tournament from 32 to 48 teams.
A Glamorous Hosting Duo
World-renowned model and television star Heidi Klum will share hosting duties with actors Kevin Hart and Danny Ramirez, enhancing the glitzy atmosphere of the evening. Expect memorable performances from artists like Nicole Scherzinger, Andrea Bocelli, Robbie Williams, and the legendary Village People, all contributing to an unforgettable ceremony. The night will also commemorate FIFA’s inaugural Peace Prize, recognizing commendable efforts toward global harmony.
Innovative Format and Exciting Timetable
This edition of the World Cup will signify a pivotal moment in its history with 104 matches scheduled across 16 venues in North America. Eleven NFL stadiums in the U.S. will accommodate 78 matches, including knockout-stage encounters, while Mexico and Canada will each host 13 games. The grand finale is slated for July 19 at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium, enriched by the first-ever halftime show in World Cup history.
The tournament’s format will see the top two teams from each group and eight best third-placed teams advance, culminating in a new round of 32. Players could face up to eight matches on their journey to the title. The U.S. is set to begin its campaign on June 12 in Inglewood, California, with additional games in Seattle and a final group match back in Inglewood on June 25.
A World Celebration Awaits
For Tom Brady, also a stakeholder in the English Championship club Birmingham City, taking part in the draw symbolizes a “global stage every athlete dreams of.” The ceremony promises not only to highlight football but to celebrate international culture, sportsmanship, and entertainment as the excitement builds for one of the most awaited tournaments in history.
