The team of Bigg Boss Kannada can finally breathe a sigh of relief after Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar ordered officials to lift the ban on the studio where the popular reality show is being filmed.
The Jollywood premises in Bidadi, Bengaluru South district, which serve as the shooting location for Bigg Boss Kannada, were sealed by the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) for alleged environmental violations. However, after careful review, Shivakumar intervened and allowed the reopening, giving the studio management time to fix environmental compliance issues.
Actor and host Kichcha Sudeepa took to social media to thank the Deputy Chief Minister for his timely action and for recognising that Bigg Boss Kannada was not directly involved in the environmental violations. “I sincerely thank Hon. @DKShivakumar sir for the timely support. Also want to thank the concerned authorities for acknowledging that #BBK was not involved or was a part of the recent chaos or disturbances,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
The Deputy Chief Minister explained that while environmental safety remains the top priority, the government also understands the importance of supporting the Kannada entertainment industry. “I have directed the Deputy Commissioner to lift the seal on Jollywood premises. The studio will be given time to address violations in accordance with the norms set by the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board,” Shivakumar stated.
Earlier, the KSPCB had sealed the premises, claiming that Vels Studio – the official operator of the site – was functioning without the mandatory consent to operate under the Air and Water Acts. According to board officials, the studio lacked proper sewage treatment and solid waste management systems.
SS Lingaraju, the Member Secretary of the KSPCB, explained, “The studio did not have the necessary consent to operate, and their sewage and waste management systems were not in line with the required environmental standards.”
The closure had temporarily halted the filming of the reality show, creating panic among the cast and crew. However, with the government’s latest decision, production has officially resumed, and the much-loved show is expected to continue airing without further disruption.
Deputy CM Shivakumar assured that the state government will continue supporting the entertainment sector while maintaining strict environmental accountability.
