In a historic moment, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese wed his long-time partner Jodie Haydon on Saturday, becoming the first sitting leader to marry while in office. The intimate ceremony was held in the tranquil gardens of The Lodge in Canberra, attended by close family and friends.
The 62-year-old prime minister sported a classic bow-tie, while Haydon dazzled in a flowing white gown as confetti rained down on the happy couple. Sharing their joy on social media, Albanese simply captioned a post with “Married,” alongside a video of their blissful walk together. They expressed their shared delight in a joint statement, emphasizing their commitment to a future together.
Having been engaged since Valentine’s Day 2024, Albanese has described Haydon as his ideal partner for life. The couple crafted their own vows and were united by a celebrant. A personal touch was added as their beloved cavoodle, Toto, served as the ring bearer. Guests were treated to locally brewed beer as the couple walked down the aisle to Stevie Wonder’s timeless hit “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours).”
Following the ceremony, the newlyweds are slated to embark on a five-day honeymoon within Australia starting Monday. Having divorced in 2019, Albanese shares an adult son, Nathan, and met Haydon over five years ago during a business dinner in Melbourne.
As the leader of the Labor Party, Albanese recently secured a second three-year term during a landslide election in May. This wedding serves as a significant personal milestone for him, capturing public intrigue both domestically and internationally amidst his extensive political journey.
The wedding has swiftly become a trending topic in Australia, showcasing the prime minister’s approachable side and is poised to attract substantial media attention and social engagement.
