Aston Villa edged closer to qualifying for the Europa League last-16 with a commanding win over Young Boys, highlighted by two goals from Donyell Malen. However, the match was marred by crowd unrest as fans from the visiting side clashed with authorities, with one object striking Malen, resulting in a head injury.

This victory marked Villa’s 10th win in 12 matches under Unai Emery, showcasing their formidable performance in the 2023-24 season. The match was paused for five minutes following Malen's second goal due to escalating tensions as Young Boys captain Loris Benito urged the crowd to deescalate, yet the violence persisted as riot police intervened.
