Andres Iniesta Takes the Helm at Gulf United FC as Head Coach

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

Legendary midfielder Andres Iniesta has embarked on a new adventure in football, having been named head coach of Gulf United FC, a club in the UAE First Division League.

Following his retirement from professional football in 2024, the 2010 FIFA World Cup champion steps into his inaugural coaching position. Gulf United made the announcement on Monday, revealing Iniesta's intention to continue his development as a coach while leading the club.

At 42, Iniesta has recently achieved his UEFA A Licence and is actively pursuing his Pro Licence. The club expressed confidence in the former star midfielder as he transitions to a managerial role.

Widely recognized as one of the greatest midfielders of all time, Iniesta was instrumental in the triumphs of both Barcelona and the Spanish national team during the late 2000s and early 2010s. He is particularly remembered for scoring the decisive goal in the 2010 FIFA World Cup final against the Netherlands, which secured Spain's first-ever victory in the tournament.

Throughout his illustrious playing career, Iniesta garnered multiple trophies, including numerous UEFA Champions League and La Liga titles with Barcelona, before ending his playing days at Emirates Club in the UAE.

Reflecting on his new position, Iniesta expressed that Gulf United is the ideal setting to commence his coaching career, emphasizing his desire to give back to the sport that has given him so much by nurturing young talents and aiding them in realizing their potential.

This appointment signifies the start of Iniesta’s coaching journey, as he aims to pivot from an exceptional playing career to building a successful future in management.
