Anand Varadarajan Named CTO of Starbucks Amid Leadership Changes

Post by : Raina Nasser

Starbucks has made a significant move within its tech leadership by appointing Anand Varadarajan, an Indian-origin technology specialist, as the new Chief Technology Officer.

Commencing his new position on January 19, Varadarajan will be part of the executive leadership team and will report directly to the CEO. He steps in after the previous technology leader's retirement in September.

With nearly 19 years of experience at Amazon, Varadarajan has extensive expertise in developing robust and efficient systems used by millions. His latest position involved overseeing technology and supply systems for Amazon's global grocery sector.

Before his tenure at Amazon, Anand Varadarajan worked as a software engineer at Oracle and also gathered valuable experience at various startups during his early career, where he was actively involved in building technology solutions from scratch.

Starbucks emphasized that Varadarajan's deep understanding of secure and reliable digital systems will enhance daily operations and accelerate the customer service experience globally.

Holding degrees from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Purdue University in civil engineering, and the University of Washington in computer science, Varadarajan's educational background complements his extensive industry experience.

Through his appointment, Starbucks aims to expedite its digital transformation while reinforcing its technology framework. The company is increasingly focused on enhancing digital tools, online services, and delivering seamless customer experiences, with Varadarajan's leadership seen as vital to these efforts.

With Anand Varadarajan's entry as CTO, Starbucks is poised to strengthen its technological capabilities while prioritizing customer engagement in every initiative.
