In a significant development aimed at enhancing cloud infrastructure, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud unveiled a new multicloud networking service on Sunday. This solution enables companies to create high-speed private links between the two platforms in mere minutes—a transition that used to span several weeks.
This partnership follows an AWS outage on October 20 that affected numerous websites globally, including well-known applications like Snapchat and Reddit. Analysts believe the outage led to estimated losses of between $500 million and $650 million for U.S. businesses.
The new offering integrates AWS’ Interconnect with Google Cloud’s Cross-Cloud Interconnect, designed to facilitate seamless data transfers and minimize the risk of downtime. Early users, including Salesforce, are already utilizing the service to enhance application performance and maintain consistent connectivity.
As reliance on cloud technology and AI applications grows, these tech leaders are rapidly scaling their infrastructures. AWS maintains its position as the largest cloud service provider, reporting $33 billion in revenue for the third quarter—over twice the $15.16 billion generated by Google Cloud. This multicloud initiative signifies a broader shift toward collaborative efforts in the tech industry to satisfy the burgeoning demand for agile and dependable cloud solutions.
