In North Darfur, Sudan, as many as 10,000 residents fled the city of al-Fashir after its capture last week by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. Large numbers have arrived in the town of Tawila seeking shelter and urgent medical attention.
At a clinic operated by an international aid organisation, patients described traumatic escapes from the violence in al-Fashir. Medical staff report treating dozens of severely malnourished children alongside men with serious injuries that often require surgical care.
The influx of displaced people has placed significant strain on local healthcare facilities. Teams on the ground are providing emergency interventions including wound care, nutritional rehabilitation and essential surgical procedures.
Aid workers warn the situation could deteriorate rapidly if humanitarian assistance and secure access are not provided. Limited supplies and constrained access risk further harm to civilians in the region.
This displacement highlights the wider humanitarian emergency in Sudan, where ongoing armed conflict continues to drive thousands from their homes and leave many exposed to malnutrition, disease and injury.
