The Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF) has unveiled plans for the upcoming 23rd Abu Dhabi Festival, commencing on April 12, 2026. This prominent event will feature over 1,000 artists from 19 countries, performing in venues across Abu Dhabi as well as internationally. It is held under the esteemed patronage of H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and H.H. Sheikha Shamsa bint Hamdan Al Nahyan.

The overarching theme for this year is ‘The Wisdom of Culture’, which highlights culture's role as a connector among people and celebrates human ingenuity. The United States has been designated as the Country of Honour, commemorating its 250-year history of independence and over five decades of friendship with the UAE. The festival also marks the 30th anniversary of the ADMAF.

Anticipated highlights include 10 prestigious orchestras, ballet, opera performances, and concerts featuring acclaimed artists. The Abu Dhabi Festival Abroad will spotlight UAE arts alongside international talent, through exhibitions and collaborative projects. Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan noted that the festival fosters cultural heritage, dialogue, and harmonious coexistence between nations.

Huda Alkhamis-Kanoo, founder of ADMAF, expressed that the festival commemorates three decades of nurturing global creativity through the arts. Eric Gaudiosi, Chargé d’Affaires at the US Embassy, emphasized that fostering creativity and innovation strengthens communities and inspires growth.

The opening will feature Grammy-winning pianist Jon Batiste performing at Emirates Palace Auditorium. Cellist HAUSER is set to take the stage at Etihad Arena on May 2, blending classical and contemporary music. Other notable performances include the American Ballet Theatre, the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra’s Verdi Opera Gala, and Algarabía, a flamenco-Arab fusion act.

A lineup of renowned pianists, violinists, and opera singers will perform, such as Minsoo Sohn, Lisa Batiashvili, Giorgi Gigashvili, and Sondra Radvanovsky. Dhafer Youssef will bring his unique fusion of North African Arab music, jazz, and classical elements as part of UNESCO’s World Jazz Day.

The Festival will culminate with the Emirati Recital Series running from May 12 to May 16, featuring artists such as Fatima Al Hashimi, Saif Al Naqbi, Mubarak Al Dhaheri, Noura Al Mazrouei, and Elham Al Marzouqi, showcasing both classical and Arabic musical traditions.

Abu Dhabi Festival Abroad will host Emirati art exhibitions, like Proximities in Seoul, Korea, featuring over 100 works by 47 artists. Co-productions such as the Mansour Rahbani Centennial Concert and Algarabía aim to bring international talent to Abu Dhabi.

The Festival Academy will offer workshops, masterclasses, and open rehearsals, while Youth Matinees and Back to School programs aim to engage local students. A new collaboration with the Klimt Quartet will establish the Abu Dhabi Festival Youth Orchestra, led by an Emirati conductor.

In autumn 2026, the first Children’s Biennale will take place at Umm Al Emarat Park, in partnership with the Singapore National Gallery. This outdoor initiative will encourage children and families to create art using eco-friendly materials, celebrating unity and creativity.

Sponsorship from Mubadala and GS Energy underscores the Festival's commitment to fostering global music, art, and cultural exchanges, further establishing Abu Dhabi as a pivotal center for international arts and innovation.
