2026 Long Weekend Calendar: Your Guide to Vacations in India

Post by : Saif Nasser

Planning ahead for holidays can result in significant savings, reduced stress, and enhanced enjoyment during your time off. In 2026, a long-weekend calendar is already available online, assisting both travellers and professionals in highlighting important holidays and festival breaks throughout the year.

This calendar outlines opportunities to extend short weekends into longer breaks by strategically taking additional leave days, making it ideal for travel or family gatherings. Below is a monthly overview of India’s long weekends for 2026.

January: Kick Off the Year with Extended Weekend Opportunities

The first extended period of 2026 runs from January 1–4. With New Year’s Day on a Thursday, taking the following Friday off creates an enticing long weekend.

Makar Sankranti occurs on January 14, offering another break.

Later, January 23–26 presents an extended window, as Vasant Panchami on the 23rd coincides with the weekend leading into Republic Day on Monday, allowing for several days of relaxation or holiday planning.

February: Mid-Month Rest

Mahashivratri on February 15 provides another opportunity for a break. The end of the month, February 28, sets the stage for Holi week, making it an excellent time for vacation planning.

March: A Month of Festivals

March kicks off on a Sunday, with Holi on March 3, allowing for a four-day escape when combined with the last weekend of February.

Eid al-Fitr on March 20–22 offers yet another long weekend. The period from March 26–31 offers multiple travel opportunities, as Ram Navami falls on Thursday; taking the subsequent Friday off leads to an extended break into the weekend, with more options available before Mahavir Jayanti on Monday.

April to June: Holiday Opportunities Abound

April’s long weekends are highlighted by Good Friday and Ram Navami, presenting attractive getaway prospects. With schools out for summer, family trips are popular during this period.

May features Labour Day on the 1st, and certain states also observe Buddha Purnima, permitting workers to enjoy a longer break.

June may be quieter but still presents several short weekends, ideal for quick vacations or urban getaways.

July to September: Approaching Festive Season

July showcases local festivities such as Rath Yatra in some regions. August is especially favorable for travel, with Independence Day on August 15 and Raksha Bandhan, allowing for extended breaks when combined with weekends.

September offers Ganesh Chaturthi, creating additional windows for travel—especially for short excursions within India.

October to December: Year-End Celebrations

October includes Dussehra, while the festive period of Diwali in November provides some of the longest holiday spans of the year. Strategically taking leave around Diwali can significantly prolong festive celebrations.

December wraps up the year with Christmas and New Year’s Eve, offering travellers yet another opportunity for extended vacations or year-end getaways.

Travel Tips

Book Early: Popularity during long weekends leads to high demand for flights and accommodations, so early bookings can help mitigate costs.

Plan Leave Wisely: Combining festival holidays with a single day off can maximize holiday time.

Check State Holidays: Various festivals are celebrated regionally, so confirming local holidays is crucial before arranging trips.

By utilizing this 2026 long-weekend calendar and planning ahead, travellers can relish stress-free holidays and fully enjoy their time off. Whether you’re looking at a family vacation, a quick city trip, or festive celebrations, understanding the clusters of holidays will facilitate better planning.
