The United Nations is intensifying calls for international support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) as Gaza faces a deepening humanitarian crisis. UN Secretary-General and diplomats from around the world have highlighted the urgent need to fund essential services for refugees, including food, healthcare, and education.
UNRWA provides vital assistance to over 1.5 million Palestinian refugees in Gaza, delivering food aid, medical care, education, and social services. The escalating conflict and ongoing blockade have strained the agency’s resources, leaving thousands at risk of deprivation.
UN Secretary-General emphasized that sustaining UNRWA operations is crucial to prevent further humanitarian disaster. Diplomatic representatives from the European Union, the United States, and other countries have joined the call, urging governments and donors to increase funding immediately.
The agency is struggling with financial shortfalls and operational limitations due to ongoing hostilities in Gaza. Limited access to essential supplies, disrupted infrastructure, and growing civilian needs have intensified the pressure on UNRWA staff to maintain basic services.
Humanitarian experts stress that timely international assistance is critical to prevent famine, collapse of medical services, and disruption of education for children. Support for UNRWA not only addresses immediate needs but also contributes to longer-term stability in the region.
UN officials are urging countries to provide both financial aid and logistical support. Ensuring safe passage for aid workers and uninterrupted delivery of essential services is a top priority. Global cooperation is seen as the only way to mitigate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza effectively.
The call for support for UNRWA reflects the urgent need to protect vulnerable populations in Gaza amid ongoing conflict. Strengthened international cooperation and funding are essential to maintain food, medical, and educational services for refugees, preventing further humanitarian deterioration.
