The Indian Railways is launching the Amritsar-New Jalpaiguri Amrit Bharat Express, aimed at enhancing rail connectivity between Punjab and West Bengal. This new weekly service is anticipated to commence commercial operations shortly.
This train will link Amritsar in Punjab with New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal, passing through key cities and towns across Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Officials believe that this new route will serve thousands of long-distance passengers effectively.
Developed by the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai, the Amrit Bharat Express is designed as an affordable and modern rail service catering to regular travelers. It features several upgraded amenities while keeping ticket prices competitive compared to other premium services.
According to the timetable, train number 14664 will depart from Amritsar every Thursday at 12:45 PM, arriving in New Jalpaiguri by Saturday at 4:15 AM. The return journey, via train number 14663, is scheduled to leave New Jalpaiguri every Saturday at 8:00 AM and reach Amritsar by Monday at 2:20 AM.
The train will stop at 35 stations throughout its journey, with significant halts at Jalandhar City, Ludhiana, Ambala Cantt, Saharanpur, Moradabad, Bareilly, Gonda, Gorakhpur, Raxaul, Sitamarhi, Forbesganj, Bagdogra, and Siliguri.
Passengers hailing from Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh are expected to gain substantially from this service, particularly those in smaller towns where direct long-distance train options are scarce.
Railway officials noted that the Amrit Bharat Express is part of a broader initiative by Indian Railways to expand affordable and modern train services nationwide. This initiative mainly targets lower and middle-income travelers seeking comfort on long journeys.
Travel professionals indicate that this new route is set to bolster tourism and enhance economic ties between northern and eastern India, while also easing travel challenges for families, students, and migrant workers.
