Ukraine Expresses Readiness to Discuss US Peace Plan to Resolve Conflict

Post by : Raina Nasser

On Thursday, November 20, 2025, Ukraine declared its readiness to engage in discussions regarding a draft peace plan proposed by the United States to bring an end to the ongoing conflict with Russia. This announcement was made by President Volodymyr Zelensky’s office in Kyiv, highlighting Ukraine's commitment to diplomacy in addressing the war.

The statement from Zelensky’s office confirmed that the Ukrainian government has officially received the draft plan from the US, which is viewed as a potential avenue to enhance diplomatic efforts. “The President of Ukraine has received the draft plan from the American side, which has been assessed as a way to stimulate diplomacy,” the announcement noted.

While the specifics of the draft have not been fully unveiled, sources suggest that some proposals may mirror Russia’s maximalist demands. These could include stipulations for Ukraine to relinquish certain territories and restrict its military capacity. Nonetheless, Ukraine expressed that it aims to engage constructively with the US and other international partners to ensure that any agreement reached is equitable and preserves Ukraine’s dignity.

After a meeting in Kyiv between US military officials and Zelensky’s team, it was confirmed that both parties would meticulously review the plan and collaborate on its details. “It was agreed to work on the points of the plan to secure a dignified conclusion to the war,” the statement added. Ukraine reiterated its readiness to partner with the US, Europe, and other global allies for a lasting peace solution.

In the coming days, a phone call is anticipated between President Zelensky and former US President Donald Trump to further delve into the peace plan. Ukraine’s willingness to negotiate underscores its effort to align diplomatic pursuits with national security, resisting any negotiations that could undermine its sovereignty.

This event marks a pivotal moment in addressing the conflict, showcasing the role of the United States as a mediator while reaffirming Ukraine’s dedication to finding a peaceful resolution that does not concede to unjust demands.
