The United Arab Emirates and India recently held the sixth session of their joint Consular Committee at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abu Dhabi. The discussions aimed to reinforce bilateral cooperation and enhance services for the citizens of both nations.
Omar Obaid Alhesan Alshamsi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led the UAE delegation, while Arun Kumar Chatterjee, Secretary for Consular, Passport, Visa, and Overseas Indian Affairs, led the Indian team. The meeting emphasized cooperation in areas of mutual interest and the sharing of best practices in consular services.
Alshamsi welcomed the Indian team and conveyed greetings from H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs. He pointed out that this sixth session signifies the dedication of both countries' leadership to foster stronger ties. He reiterated the historical, cultural, and strategic links that promote shared benefits and meet the expectations of citizens in both nations.
Key discussion points included enhancing consular cooperation, sharing expertise, and discovering innovative methods to improve the quality of citizen services. Both delegations acknowledged that the exchange of knowledge and experiences in consular affairs would lead to improved service delivery and streamlined processes.
During the meeting, the Indian delegation explored the UAE's unique Smart Mission model, which utilizes an integrated system of advanced technologies and artificial intelligence. This initiative represents the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs' pledge to modernize operations, simplify procedures, and improve the customer experience for citizens worldwide.
The Smart Mission exhibits the UAE's innovative approach in leveraging technology to provide faster, more transparent, and efficient consular services, ensuring high-quality support for tasks like visa and passport applications.
Both sides also explored opportunities for further collaboration on technology-enhanced consular solutions. By sharing insights and investigating new tools, the UAE and India aspire to make consular operations more effective, user-friendly, and responsive to citizens' needs.
This sixth joint session of the UAE-India Consular Committee not only solidified the robust relationship between the two nations but also underscored their shared commitment to modernizing consular services through innovation.
