In a notable advancement for UAE–India trade relations, Abu Dhabi and Mumbai saw the signing of a critical statement by Abu Dhabi Customs and India’s Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) to initiate a Trusted Digital Trade Corridor based on the CEPA framework.
This event unfolded during the Abu Dhabi Investment Forum in Mumbai, attended by key officials from both countries. The statement was signed by Rashed Lahej Al Mansoori, Director General of Abu Dhabi Customs, alongside Shri Vimal Kumar Srivastava, Chief Commissioner of Customs for Mumbai Zone-II, with notable representatives from the UAE present.
The countries reaffirmed their commitment to revolutionizing cross-border trade via digital innovation, enabling real-time data exchange and automated processes. The aim of the Trusted Digital Trade Corridor is to enhance transparency and expedite customs operations through the integration of trade systems between the UAE and India.
This partnership seeks to establish a cohesive technical framework, backed by both public and private sector stakeholders. The pilot will concentrate on developing a scalable model that facilitates seamless digital trading, aiming for quicker clearances and minimized manual interventions.
Officials from both nations noted that the results from the pilot phase will shape a sustainable infrastructure for trusted digital corridors, thereby strengthening their economic alliance and enhancing ongoing modernization efforts in customs procedures.
