In a remarkable display of cultural synergy, Turkmenistan recently hosted the 27th Opera Days as part of the International Organization of Turkic Culture, known as TURKSOY. This prestigious gathering unfolded at the Palace of Mukams within the State Cultural Center located in Ashgabat, attracting esteemed opera performers from Turkmenistan, Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan.
The concert served as a testament to the escalating cultural collaboration among Turkic-speaking nations, underlining Turkmenistan's efforts in advancing international cultural dialogues. Officials highlighted that the event underscored the nation's dedication to fostering peace, friendship, and mutual understanding through the arts.
Hosted under the cultural initiatives propelled by Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the event illustrated Turkmenistan's expansive endeavors in collaborating with global entities, particularly in cultural and humanitarian spheres. The government emphasizes cultural diplomacy as a strategic avenue to fortify trust and unity across nations.
The evening kicked off with a performance of “Türkmenistan bagy-bossan,” a piece by Veli Mukhadov, rendered by the State Symphony Orchestra and the State Choir of Turkmenistan. This composition honored the scenic beauty, prosperity, and cultural wealth of Turkmenistan, earning hearty applause from attendees.
The concert featured a variety of opera singers performing well-known pieces from both Turkic and global classical repertoires. The audience relished excerpts from national operas delivered in Turkmen, Uzbek, Kyrgyz, Azerbaijani, Kazakh, and Turkish, showcasing the rich cultural tapestry of the Turkic heritage.
Recognized opera classics such as “Romeo and Juliet,” “Carmen,” “Faust,” “Il Trovatore,” “Pagliacci,” and “Andrea Chénier” were also presented in Italian, French, German, and Spanish. This multilingual aspect highlighted the event's international essence and the linkage between Turkic and global classical music traditions.
Cultural analysts remarked that the concert symbolized a significant bond among Turkic-speaking nations, demonstrating how music and the performing arts can solidify international friendships while safeguarding the historical and spiritual connections shared across Central Asia and beyond.
The evening culminated with all performers uniting for a rendition of the beloved Italian song “Funiculì, Funiculà,” which epitomized peace, harmony, and enduring friendships among the nations represented, drawing a fervent response from the audience.
Artists, along with cultural delegates, expressed their appreciation to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov for championing international cultural cooperation and facilitating artistic exchanges worldwide. Officials assert that the successful execution of the TURKSOY Opera Days concert has further reinforced Turkmenistan's position as a pivotal cultural and humanitarian hub in the region.
