Trump Approves $1.5M Overhaul of Lincoln Reflecting Pool

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

U.S. President Donald Trump has revealed plans for a significant facelift of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington, D.C., announcing the application of a fresh coat in an “American flag blue” hue.

According to Trump, the current granite surface is “leaking like a sieve” and replacing it in full would be a lengthy process. He noted that estimates for a complete granite replacement would reach approximately $301 million, with a timeline of three years.

As a faster alternative, Trump has opted for a cheaper and quicker solution, cleaning the pool and applying an industrial-grade coating for about $1.5 million, with completion anticipated in just a few weeks.

The president's decision was partly influenced by a friend's remark from Germany about the pool's unsightly water. He also expressed disappointment about the site’s condition during a recent visit with the Secret Service.

Initially leaning towards a turquoise inspired by Bahamian pools, Trump settled on the contractor's proposal for “American flag blue.”

The project is being overseen by a pool contractor Trump is familiar with from his previous real estate ventures.

The renovation is on track for completion ahead of the July 4 celebrations, marking the United States’ 250th Independence Day anniversary.

Nestled between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool stands as a quintessential symbol of American history, famously known as the location of Martin Luther King Jr.’s iconic “I Have a Dream” speech.
