On May 30, Vietnamese General Secretary and President To Lam paid homage to President Ho Chi Minh during his official trip to Singapore, underscoring Vietnam’s enduring respect for its revolutionary heritage and the intention to fortify international alliances. The tribute was held at Singapore's Asian Civilisations Museum, a prominent cultural site.
Accompanied by his wife and an esteemed Vietnamese delegation, President To Lam placed a wreath at the revered statue and memorial plaque dedicated to Ho Chi Minh. This visit coincided with his participation in the 23rd Shangri-La Dialogue, a leading forum for security and diplomatic discussions in Asia.
At the ceremony, President To Lam and his delegation observed a moment of silence to honor Ho Chi Minh, who is celebrated as the key architect of modern Vietnam. This tribute illustrated the nation’s unwavering gratitude for his pivotal role in independence and national development, alongside fostering international unity.
Situated within the grounds of the Asian Civilisations Museum, the statue of President Ho Chi Minh stands prominently, alongside memorials dedicated to various esteemed Asian leaders and historical figures. The site symbolizes the enduring friendship between Vietnam and Singapore.
The memorial plaque honoring Ho Chi Minh was inaugurated in May 2008, marking the 118th anniversary of his birth and the 35th anniversary of Vietnam-Singapore diplomatic ties. This initiative has been widely embraced as a testament to the strengthening relationship between the two nations.
In line with this recognition, advocates for Vietnam within the Singapore heritage community, in collaboration with the Vietnamese Embassy and the Ho Chi Minh Museum, recommended the installation of a permanent statue. This statue was officially unveiled in September 2011, becoming an enduring site of remembrance and cultural significance.
President To Lam’s visit further consolidates the ongoing collaboration between Vietnam and Singapore across economic, security, educational, and cultural domains. Officials from both nations have accentuated the necessity for robust bilateral relations amidst evolving regional and global contexts.
Nestled along the historic Singapore River, the Asian Civilisations Museum acts as a conduit between diverse cultures within Asia. The presence of Ho Chi Minh’s statue not only signifies his historical impact but also reflects the deepening camaraderie and mutual respect between Vietnam and Singapore.
