The government of Thailand has officially denied alarming rumors claiming the presence of Ebola virus disease within its borders, reaffirming that no confirmed cases have been identified in the nation. Authorities have encouraged citizens to rely on credible sources and to refrain from disseminating unsupported information circulating on social media.
According to the Prime Minister's Office, this false assertion was highlighted as one of the most prevalent pieces of misinformation by the Thailand Anti-Fake News Center (AFNC). Officials emphasized their commitment to combating fake news while enhancing public understanding of health and safety issues.
The clarification followed the arrival of a female traveler from the Democratic Republic of Congo, which has a history of Ebola outbreaks. Health authorities implemented standard disease control protocols and transferred her to the Bamrasnaradura Infectious Diseases Institute for careful monitoring and assessment.
Health experts reported that the traveler exhibited no signs of Ebola exposure and did not fit the criteria for a suspected case. Investigations confirmed that she had already made arrangements to return to her home country, further alleviating concerns regarding any possible public health threat.
Government officials highlighted that the case was managed in accordance with routine disease surveillance protocols that are consistently executed for travelers arriving from regions with ongoing infectious disease issues. These precautionary steps are intended to ensure the prompt detection and prevention of potential health hazards.
The Ministry of Public Health has directed the Department of Disease Control to maintain oversight of passengers arriving from nations where infectious diseases may emerge, especially the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. Ongoing surveillance measures are in place at entry points nationwide.
Data obtained from May 21 to May 25, 2026, indicated that health officials screened 53 travelers from monitored areas. No individuals were identified for disease investigation, and no Ebola-related cases were observed during this period.
Officials reiterated that Thailand's public health infrastructure remains alert and fully equipped to respond to infectious disease threats. The government has urged citizens to verify information through official channels and to avoid triggering unnecessary panic due to misleading or false reports on social media.
