Thailand Enhances School Safety Initiatives for Upcoming Term

Post by : Shakul

In a proactive move, Thailand is ramping up efforts to enhance school safety and educational quality as the 2026 academic year approaches. Under Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul’s leadership, the government is collaborating with various agencies to fortify learning standards, upgrade school facilities, and alleviate financial stress for parents during this transition.

According to Deputy government spokesperson Ms. Lalida Periswiwatana, a majority of schools governed by the Office of the Basic Education Commission are slated to reopen on May 18, 2026, with certain institutions beginning classes from May 14. Comprehensive inspections are underway to ensure all electrical systems, classrooms, playgrounds, educational tools, and teacher accommodations meet established safety guidelines.

The Ministry of Education has initiated workshops to drive five essential educational missions as part of the “All for Education” initiative. This program seeks to foster collaboration among educators, educational staff, and various sectors to develop an education system that addresses the genuine needs of students and the community.

In conjunction with the government’s Quick Win strategies, the Ministry of Education will finalize a Memorandum of Understanding on May 15 with 18 other agencies to develop a thorough student safety system. This collaborative effort includes the Ministry of Public Health, Ministry of Interior, the Royal Thai Police, and social welfare organizations aimed at enhancing prevention, emergency assistance, and student protection measures nationwide.

Furthermore, the government aims to ease parents' financial burdens during back-to-school season. Through the “Back To School 2026” initiative, the Ministry of Commerce is providing discounts up to 86 percent on over 1,000 educational products and services, such as school uniforms, books, and IT equipment.

Officials announced that these bargains will be available at department stores, government-supported sites, and online platforms from April 30 to May 31, 2026, with expectations for families to collectively save at least 300 million baht during this season.

Additionally, the Cabinet has sanctioned increased student subsidies for the 2026 fiscal year, affecting both the second semester of the 2025 academic year and the first semester of 2026. This boost in subsidies spans all educational stages including pre-primary, primary, and secondary levels.

Government representatives confirmed that the financial support will extend to cover school uniforms, learning tools, and additional aid for smaller schools in rural regions. This initiative aims to ensure equitable access to education while alleviating financial strains on families and enhancing educational opportunities for students throughout the nation.

Authorities believe that the comprehensive education reform and safety initiative is tailored to enable Thai students to thrive in a safer and more conducive learning environment. They remain hopeful that improved infrastructure, effective safety systems, and financial assistance will significantly bolster educational advancement and create better prospects for the nation’s youth.
