Ukraine faced another night of fear and destruction as Russian forces launched missile and drone attacks on the capital city, Kyiv, and several other major cities early Tuesday. Ukrainian officials said the strikes caused damage to homes, schools, and public buildings, and injured civilians.
According to city authorities, loud explosions were heard across Kyiv after midnight. Residents were forced to rush to shelters as air raid sirens sounded for hours. Witnesses reported seeing flashes in the sky as air defense systems tried to stop incoming missiles and drones.
Officials said several apartment buildings were damaged in eastern districts of Kyiv, located on the east side of the Dnipro River. A kindergarten building caught fire, and a commercial structure was also hit. Videos shared online showed flames coming from upper floors of residential buildings, highlighting the danger faced by ordinary families.
The head of Kyiv’s military administration confirmed that an education building was among the sites damaged. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said emergency services were working through the night to control fires and check for people trapped inside damaged structures. An air raid alert remained active for more than two hours, showing how serious and prolonged the attack was.
The violence was not limited to the capital. In Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported several strikes carried out by both missiles and drones. The regional governor said at least two people were injured. Emergency teams responded quickly, but the attacks added to the long list of damage the city has already suffered during the conflict.
Reports also came from other regions. Explosions were heard in the southeastern city of Dnipro and in Sumy, a city close to the Russian border. Public broadcaster Suspilne said residents in these areas experienced repeated blasts, increasing fear and uncertainty.
These attacks show that the conflict remains intense and unpredictable. Civilians continue to pay a heavy price, with homes, schools, and childcare centers caught in the violence. Each strike not only damages buildings but also deepens the emotional stress on people who have lived under constant threat for months.
As Ukraine’s emergency workers clear debris and assess damage, calls continue for greater protection of civilians and critical infrastructure. The overnight strikes serve as a reminder that the war is far from over and that peace remains a distant hope for many Ukrainian families.
