Abdulla Balalaa, the UAE's Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Energy and Sustainability, participated in the 5th Istanbul International Water Forum, themed “Strengthening Water Resilience: Innovation to Action.”
The forum convened ministers, senior officials, international organizations, and experts to address pressing global water issues. Participants discussed vital subjects such as technology, finance, agriculture, health, and intersectoral cooperation aimed at enhancing global water management.
Balalaa took part in a significant ministerial dialogue titled “Paradigm Shift in a Changing World: Water and the Bridging Power of Istanbul.” This session underscored the need to transform how we value and manage water, emphasizing cooperation, dialogue, and innovation as essential for addressing water-related challenges.
In his address, Balalaa reaffirmed the UAE’s dedication to global water cooperation. He noted that water diplomacy is crucial for transforming shared challenges into actionable partnerships.
He also announced that the UAE will co-host the 2026 UN Water Conference alongside Senegal, focusing on ensuring the event leads to tangible outcomes, fostering partnerships, and catering to the needs of various countries.
On the forum's sidelines, Balalaa engaged in bilateral talks with Turkish officials to explore avenues for enhancing collaboration in water resilience, energy, and sustainability.
Furthermore, he participated in a closed ministerial roundtable titled “Dialogue on Water Resilience,” led by İbrahim Yumaklı, Turkey's Minister of Agriculture and Forestry. This discussion addressed national water risks, policy strategies, and the necessity for regional and global cooperation.
