At the Mexican Grand Prix, Mercedes driver George Russell made a unique appearance in the stands by disguising himself as a Lucha Libre fan. The British racer donned a traditional Mexican wrestling mask, allowing him to immerse himself in the electrifying atmosphere of local supporters while observing the practice session.
By sitting out the opening practice session at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, Russell was able to step into the shoes of a spectator, relishing a rare perspective that he hadn’t experienced for years. Watching from the grandstands, he eagerly witnessed the on-track action unfold.
Russell took to Instagram to share this playful venture, remarking, “Haven’t watched F1 cars on track in years, so found a way to sneak into the stands while Fred was driving my car.” This post reflected his humor and innovative spirit in finding enjoyment amidst the intensity of competition.
While Russell enjoyed his unique vantage point, rookie driver Fred Vesti piloted the Mercedes during the first practice session. With Formula One's regulations mandating driver rotations throughout the four practice sessions in each season, both reserves and rookies get valuable track exposure.
So far this season, Russell has proven to be a fierce competitor, clinching eight podium finishes and two victories, placing him fourth in the championship with 252 points. His antics at the Mexican GP brought a moment of levity amid the intense competition.
