RTA Launches 40 Air-Conditioned Rest Zones for Delivery Personnel in Dubai

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has declared that approximately 40 air-conditioned rest zones for delivery personnel are now operational, just in time for the summer months.

This initiative is part of RTA's commitment to enhancing road safety, minimizing the risk of accidents, and improving the overall work experience and living conditions for delivery personnel. Furthermore, it aims to promote greater adherence to traffic regulations.

Strategically located throughout critical areas of Dubai—including Hessa Street, Al Khawaneej, Al Barsha, Al Satwa, Oud Maitha, Al Karama, and Arjan—the placement of these rest zones was informed by operational data and a thorough examination of high-traffic delivery regions, conducted in collaboration with delivery firms.

Each facility boasts design features that mitigate direct sunlight exposure and enhance thermal insulation while ensuring visibility. Inside, the rest areas are fully air-conditioned and provided with water dispensers and charging stations for mobile devices.

Depending on their location, each rest zone is capable of accommodating around 10 delivery personnel simultaneously, alongside dedicated parking for motorcycles and essential amenities that assist riders during their breaks.

Ahmed Mahboob, CEO of RTA’s Licensing Agency, emphasized that prioritizing traffic safety is critical for the authority, aligning with Dubai’s ambition to lead globally in road safety. He noted that a robust governance framework has been instituted to oversee the delivery sector and elevate service standards across the emirate.

According to RTA, this initiative bolsters the rapidly expanding delivery sector while ensuring that riders can work in safer and more comfortable conditions, particularly in the sweltering summer heat.
