Natural ways to reduce period cramps: Pineapple, cinnamon and more

Post by : Saif Nasser

Periods can be tough for many women. Cramps, bloating, mood swings, and discomfort often make daily tasks hard to manage. While painkillers may help, they sometimes come with side effects or only provide temporary relief. Nutritionist Khushi Chhabra, a holistic health and diabetes educator, suggests natural ways to reduce period pain using everyday foods.

In an Instagram video titled “Reduce period cramps naturally, no side-effects”, shared on November 25, Khushi explained how certain ingredients can help ease menstrual discomfort, improve blood flow, and lift mood during periods.

Pineapple and Cinnamon
One of the easiest remedies she recommends is eating pineapple with a sprinkle of cinnamon. Pineapple contains bromelain, which helps reduce inflammation and relaxes the uterine muscles. Cinnamon has a compound called cinnamaldehyde, which improves blood flow and eases cramps. Together, they may help reduce pain naturally and support smoother menstrual cycles.

Other Natural Alternatives

Dark Chocolate – Choose dark chocolate with at least 70% cocoa. It contains compounds that boost serotonin levels, relax muscles, and improve mood. This can make cramps easier to handle.

Hydration and Walking – Drinking enough water and walking lightly during periods helps reduce bloating and keeps discomfort under control.

Seeds – Pumpkin seeds, flaxseeds, and sesame seeds are rich in magnesium and zinc. These minerals help maintain hormonal balance and reduce period pain naturally.

Ginger-Cinnamon Water – A warm drink made with ginger and cinnamon can help relax muscles, improve circulation, and support smoother menstrual flow.

Khushi emphasizes that these remedies are gentle, safe, and can be incorporated into daily routines. Unlike medications, they work with the body to ease symptoms without unwanted side effects.

Adopting these simple natural practices can make periods more manageable, help maintain overall health, and improve comfort during menstruation.
