Green STEM 2026 Sparks Innovation Among Students

Post by : Shakul

The National Final Round of Green STEM 2026 took place successfully in Hanoi, featuring 33 teams representing 19 schools from across Vietnam. This event has emerged as a key educational platform promoting science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) learning among students, while fostering a culture of innovation and sustainable thinking.

Organized by the Institute of Educational Sciences and Skills Development under the Association of Vietnamese Universities and Colleges, the initiative aims to enhance practical STEM education and equip students for the dynamic digital economy. Experts assert that events like Green STEM are vital for nurturing future talent in areas such as artificial intelligence, robotics, automation, biotechnology, and environmental technologies.

Data from Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training indicates that over 218,000 students enrolled in STEM programs in 2024, making up roughly 36 percent of total university enrollment nationwide. This increasing interest in STEM fields showcases Vietnam's ambition to cultivate a highly skilled workforce ready to compete in global sectors.

Former Minister of Science and Technology Dr. Nguyen Quan remarked during the event that acquiring digital skills and fostering scientific thinking are crucial for students from an early age. He highlighted the need for STEM education to begin at the primary level, ensuring that children develop problem-solving skills, innovation capability, and technological awareness early on.

Organizers noted that Green STEM 2026 differs from conventional academic competitions. Rather than merely focusing on coding or robotics construction, the event urged students to address real-world issues concerning green energy, environmental protection, and sustainable development. Participants were assessed not only on their end results but also on creativity, collaboration, and their problem-solving approaches.

Numerous students showcased remarkable projects featuring automation systems, eco-friendly engineering solutions, renewable energy models, and advanced programming technologies. Many teams exhibited outstanding scientific reasoning and teamwork while proposing viable solutions aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and future tech advancements.

One notable aspect of Green STEM 2026 was its affiliation with the international World GreenMech Contest. Exceptional teams emerging from the Vietnamese finals are now presented with opportunities to partake in global STEM competitions, securing international exposure. Organizers are optimistic that this pathway will inspire students to enhance their scientific research and innovate.

Education experts view Green STEM 2026 as a significant move toward modernizing Vietnam’s educational framework and motivating youth to embrace creativity, science, and innovation. The competition also underscored Vietnam's dedication to preparing students for careers in digital transformation, green technology, and sustainable economic growth.
