Quebec City Terror Plot Suspect Secures Bail Amid Security Issues

Post by : Mina Rahman

A 24-year-old man from the Quebec City area, Simon Angers-Audet, has been granted bail while facing accusations related to a terrorist plot. Released on strict conditions, he must reside at his family home and provide regular updates on his location to authorities.

This ruling came after the Quebec Superior Court reversed an earlier decision that had denied him bail. Details of the evidence and the court's rationale are currently under a publication ban.

Angers-Audet, along with two co-defendants, Marc-Aurèle Chabot and Raphaël Lagacé, is charged with weapons offenses and aiding terrorist activities. The authorities claim they were involved in an anti-government scheme aiming to seize land forcibly in the Quebec City area.

Chabot faces an additional serious charge of inciting others to commit acts on behalf of a terrorist organization, which could lead to a life sentence.

A fourth individual, Matthew Forbes from Pont-Rouge, Quebec, confronts multiple charges, including possession of prohibited firearms, explosives, and breaches of military supply regulations. Forbes has also been granted bail under strict conditions.

At the time of their arrests on July 8, both Chabot and Forbes were serving members of the Canadian Forces at Base Valcartier, located near Quebec City.

Investigations revealed that the group participated in paramilitary training. Court documents indicated that Chabot had expressed violent intentions towards government officials and referred to a Waco-style incident in a podcast prior to his arrest.

This developing case continues to stir concerns about rising extremism and threats to public safety in the region.
