In a recent conversation on American pop icon Ciara’s podcast, actor and dancer Nora Fatehi hailed singer Shreya Ghoshal as the quintessential artist to introduce global listeners, especially those new to Bollywood, to the rich tapestry of Indian music and culture. Nora referred to Ghoshal as “an icon” with “the most beautiful voice I have ever heard.”
The duo recently teamed up for the track Oh Mama! TETEMA, which artfully fuses Hindi elements with contemporary international sounds. Reflecting on their collaboration, Nora assured Ciara, “You will message me in a few days saying, ‘Wow!’ She possesses an extraordinary voice, singing memorable melodies from many classic films.”
When asked by Ciara to suggest a Bollywood artist to introduce to those unfamiliar with Indian music, Nora instantly named Shreya Ghoshal, stating, “Anyone who seeks to grasp Bollywood music and culture should listen to her.” She even described Ghoshal as a “walking autotune,” applauding her impeccable pitch and artistry.
Nora’s deep admiration illustrates her respect for genuine talent in the music industry; she admitted, “When they informed me I would be singing with her, I felt nervous. I’m not a vocalist; my strength lies in delivering vibes. But she is the true vocalist.”
The song has gained traction not only for its appealing sound but also for how it unites two formidable female artists from distinct musical backgrounds—Nora a representative of global pop-dance, and Shreya a hallmark of Indian musical excellence.
Shreya Ghoshal has received the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer five times and has won Filmfare awards in five different languages, solidifying her status as one of India’s most celebrated singers.
While Nora initially rose to fame through electrifying dance performances in chart-toppers like Dilbar, Saki Saki, and Garmi, she has progressively ventured into the realm of international music.
Looking ahead to 2024 and 2025, Nora plans to work with a mix of both global and Indian artists, including Jason Derulo, Shenseea, Honey Singh, and Shreya Ghoshal, as she expands her artistic horizons.
Her journey—from dancer to singer and performer—highlights her drive to represent Indian entertainment globally. Thus, Nora’s commendation of Shreya Ghoshal springs from both admiration and an appreciation for achieving worldwide resonance in music.
By endorsing Shreya as a key to understanding Indian music, Nora underscores the enduring allure of melody, emotion, and authenticity that defines Ghoshal’s legacy.
The dialogue among Ciara, Nora, and the mention of Shreya Ghoshal symbolizes a cultural bridge between Western and Indian pop landscapes. With artists like Nora showcasing Indian music to fresh audiences and icons like Shreya embodying its essence, Bollywood’s reach continues to grow beyond borders.
As Nora poignantly expressed: “Anyone wanting to truly understand Bollywood's spirit must listen to Shreya Ghoshal.”
