A new online fraud is spreading rapidly through social media platforms, messaging apps, and promotional ads where users are being lured with fake OTT subscription deals for services like Netflix, **Amazon Prime Video, and JioHotstar at just ₹299. Cybersecurity experts have warned that these offers are completely fake and can result in serious financial damage, including bank account hacking and personal data theft.
Scammers are circulating messages claiming users can get premium OTT subscriptions at extremely low prices or even “lifetime access” deals. These offers are mainly shared through WhatsApp forwards, Instagram ads, and unknown links. Users are asked to make a small payment of ₹299 to activate the subscription, which appears genuine at first glance.
Once users click on the link, they are redirected to fake websites designed to look like official OTT platforms. After entering card details, UPI PIN, or net banking information, scammers immediately gain access to sensitive financial data. In many cases, users are also tricked into downloading unknown apps that secretly steal personal information from their devices.
Cyber experts confirm that no official streaming platform provides bundled subscriptions of Netflix, Prime Video, and JioHotstar together at such a low price. These companies have fixed subscription plans and never offer unrealistic combined deals. Any such offer is a strong indication of fraud.
Victims of this scam may face several financial and personal risks including unauthorized bank transactions, UPI fraud, misuse of debit or credit cards, identity theft, and loss of sensitive personal data. In some cases, entire bank accounts can be drained within minutes of sharing details.
Users are advised to avoid clicking on unknown or suspicious links, never share banking or card details on unverified websites, and always check offers only through official apps or websites. It is also important to avoid downloading apps from third-party sources and to report suspicious messages to cybercrime authorities immediately.
Authorities have warned that such OTT subscription scams are increasing quickly as fraudsters use attractive pricing to trap users. These scams mainly target people looking for cheap entertainment deals and use urgency-based messages to force quick decisions without verification.
OTT platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and JioHotstar are widely used for entertainment, but users must stay alert against fake subscription offers. A ₹299 “all-in-one OTT deal” is almost always a scam designed to steal money and personal information. Always verify offers through official platforms before making any payment
