In a landmark announcement, Malaysia's Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim revealed that hardcore poverty has been eradicated in Selangor, largely thanks to targeted assistance programs. This significant news was shared following a district meeting focused on regional development and welfare.

During a Petaling District Development Meeting held in Shah Alam, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of continuous support for low-income families, highlighting that progress is being made in various initiatives aimed at uplifting their living standards.

While celebrating this achievement, Anwar stressed the necessity of ongoing monitoring to ensure that all families receive the requisite support to enhance their living situations. He reiterated that no one should be left behind in this progress.

Beyond financial assistance, he spoke about the need for skill development and educational opportunities to foster self-sufficiency and economic stability among these families.

Emphasizing the role of Selangor’s robust economy in these initiatives, he called for strategic use of its economic strengths to improve living conditions, focusing particularly on urban challenges.

Moreover, Anwar advocated for the expansion of the SejaTi Madani program, especially in the Petaling district, which aims to promote community-driven projects that allow individuals to generate sustainable income.

The meeting highlighted several successful initiatives, such as tailored projects in Kampung Melayu Subang, stingless bee farming in Bayu Damansara, and furniture-making in Bukit Lanchong, all of which have helped families achieve incomes from RM24,000 to RM100,000.

In addition, various public issues were addressed, including road maintenance, flood mitigation, waste management, and the management of religious sites, with the government focusing on both quick fixes and long-term strategies.

Concluding his remarks, Anwar Ibrahim expressed optimism that collaborative efforts among all stakeholders would lead to tackling remaining challenges, ensuring that developmental benefits are enjoyed across all sections of society.
