Sharjah Enhances Road Infrastructure with New Developments

Sharjah Enhances Road Infrastructure with New Developments

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

In a significant move for Sharjah's transportation framework, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has given the green light to two essential development initiatives aimed at improving traffic dynamics throughout the emirate.

The first initiative is focused on a 5-kilometre segment of the Sharjah Ring Road adjacent to the Etihad Rail station, with an allocated budget of AED 90 million. This enhancement seeks to alleviate congestion on Mleiha Road, which has been experiencing escalating traffic volumes owing to the region's growing population and recent developments. Part of this plan includes the expansion of the University City Bridge, which will feature four lanes—two in each direction—thereby facilitating better traffic flow towards the Rakan Bridge.

The second initiative involves the construction of a new bridge adjacent to the Martyrs' Monument in Sharjah, which comes with a budget of AED 60 million. Once completed, this bridge will create a direct path for vehicles traveling from Mleiha Road to Mohamed bin Zayed Road, as well as assisting drivers commuting from Sheikh Khalifa Street towards Maliha Road, thereby minimizing long detours. The bridge's contemporary design is expected to enhance the aesthetic value of one of the city’s key landmarks.

These initiatives reflect Sharjah’s ongoing commitment to bolstering its infrastructure as it continues to grow. The upgrades are anticipated to reduce congestion, increase safety, and shorten travel durations between vital districts, ultimately fostering more efficient transportation for residents and visitors alike.
