Mubadala Investment Company has disclosed a significant minority stake acquisition in Power Factors, a frontrunner in renewable energy software solutions. This investment is made in collaboration with existing investor Vista Equity Partners.
The primary goal of this transaction is to foster Power Factors' international growth, innovation, and expansion within the rapidly evolving renewable energy landscape.
Known for its Unity platform, Power Factors provides integrated solutions for managing and monitoring solar, wind, and energy storage assets. The platform encompasses services such as analytics, monitoring, and asset management.
Currently, Power Factors supports around 70% of the world's leading 50 renewable energy producers, serving over 600 clients across approximately 18,000 sites in more than 70 countries, while managing approximately 310 gigawatts of renewable energy output.
Abdulla Mohamed Shadid, Mubadala's Head of Energy and Sustainability in Private Equity, noted that this investment underscores Mubadala's commitment to renewable energy. As global renewable portfolios expand, the need for advanced software and intelligent monitoring systems is becoming increasingly vital for boosting performance and operational efficiency.
He expressed pleasure in partnering with Vista Equity Partners, anticipating that this collaboration will help reinforce Power Factors’ status in renewable energy management.
This investment will also facilitate the continued development of AI-powered Renewable Energy Management Intelligence, or REMI, which leverages AI to enhance operational understanding and data management across renewable projects.
The new funding aims to bolster the firm's energy storage monitoring and control capabilities, significantly advancing the evolution of battery storage and hybrid renewable energy systems that are vital for electricity management.
Julieann Esper Rainville, CEO of Power Factors, commented that as renewable energy portfolios expand and grow more intricate, there is a pressing requirement for unified, intelligent management platforms. She added that this investment will expedite the company’s goal of becoming the leading provider of AI-driven renewable energy solutions.
Patrick Severson, Senior Managing Director and Co-Head of the Foundation Fund at Vista Equity Partners, stated that Power Factors has emerged as a crucial platform for renewable energy operators worldwide. He emphasized that Mubadala's expertise in technology and infrastructure investments will help steer the company into its next chapter of innovation and global growth.
As the renewable energy sector accelerates globally due to increased investments in sustainable solutions, the crucial role of software-based management platforms becomes evident in enhancing performance, lowering operational costs, and reinforcing modern energy infrastructures.
