The International World Games Association (IWGA) has shared its new long-term plan called IWGA Strategy 2025–2034: Agenda for the Development of The World Games and the IWGA. This plan will guide how The World Games and the IWGA will grow and improve over the next ten years.
The strategy was first introduced during the IWGA Annual General Meeting. It was created with help from Quantum Consultancy, a trusted partner that has worked with IWGA for many years.
This new plan took about a year to build and involved listening to many different groups. These included IWGA member federations, National Olympic Committees (NOCs), National Sports Organisations (NSOs), athletes, host cities, media, IWGA staff, and other partners. Everyone worked together to make sure the strategy fits the needs of the sports world today.
The strategy is based on seven main goals:
The World Games – Improving and promoting the games.
Athlete Experience & Development – Making things better for athletes.
Member & Stakeholder Engagement – Working more closely with sports groups and partners.
Commercial Growth – Helping the games grow financially.
Event Innovation & Expansion – Bringing new ideas and sports into the event.
Sustainability – Taking care of the environment and communities.
Organisational Excellence – Making sure IWGA works at its best.
Jan Fransoo, a member of the IWGA Executive Committee who led the working group, said this strategy is all about creating positive change. It’s designed to support athletes, include more people, and bring new ideas into the world of sports.
To make sure this plan is followed properly, the IWGA will use special tools like setting Key Result Areas (KRAs), giving regular updates, and doing a major review after The World Games in 2029, which will be held in Karlsruhe, Germany. This will help the IWGA stay flexible and ready for changes in the sports world.
The next edition of The World Games is planned to take place in Chengdu, China, from August 7 to 17, 2025. Around 5,000 participants from over 100 countries are expected to compete. This new strategy shows IWGA’s strong promise to keep hosting top-level, exciting, and meaningful sports events for many years ahead.
