India has emphatically rebuffed the remarks regarding Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh in a recent joint statement by China and Pakistan, labeling them as “unwarranted” and asserting that both Union Territories are irrevocably part of India. The Ministry of External Affairs reiterated that India’s position is unwavering, consistent, and non-negotiable.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that New Delhi will not tolerate interventions by foreign nations concerning its sovereignty and territorial matters. He emphasized that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh “have always been, are, and will continue to be” integral parts of India.
India expressed strong disapproval of the references to projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), reminding that many such initiatives are situated in areas of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, which India claims as its own sovereign territory. Officials asserted that any efforts to validate activities in these regions are deemed unacceptable.
Randhir Jaiswal remarked that India has consistently communicated its concerns to both China and Pakistan about infrastructure and economic projects executed in disputed areas. He highlighted New Delhi's rejection of what it terms Pakistan’s “illegal and forcible occupation” of these lands.
The Indian government also dismissed references to supposed “trans-boundary water resources cooperation” between China and Pakistan. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, India does not recognize any such arrangement, as China and Pakistan lack a legally defined boundary acknowledged by New Delhi.
This diplomatic retort follows Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent trip to China, where the two nations issued a joint statement touching on developments concerning Jammu and Kashmir. Reports suggest that China described the Kashmir issue as a “historical dispute,” advocating for a peaceful resolution in accordance with United Nations resolutions and bilateral agreements.
India has consistently argued that Jammu and Kashmir is a matter of internal concern, opposing any external interference. Officials reiterated that India does not accept the 1963 treaty registered between Pakistan and China over territories claimed by India.
The recent exchange underscores ongoing tensions in the region against the backdrop of geopolitical strife involving border conflicts, regional connectivity initiatives, and strategic alliances among Asian powers. Analysts believe this situation will continue to serve as a significant diplomatic challenge among New Delhi, Islamabad, and Beijing.
