Malaysian actress Scha Alyahya asserts that the local entertainment landscape is entering a transformative phase, characterized by enhanced storytelling, cinematography, and newfound creative liberties among artists. She expressed her sentiments while promoting her forthcoming movie, Kata Hati, expected to debut nationwide on June 4.
Known formally as Sharifah Nor Azean, Scha has been a pervasive figure in Malaysian cinema since the 2000s. Throughout her career, she has garnered acclaim through notable films like Histeria, Papadom, and Evolusi KL Drift 2, as well as television successes such as Awan Dania and Prebet Jamilah.
Reflecting on the industry’s evolution, Scha noted that contemporary actors exhibit greater openness, expressiveness, and confidence when contributing ideas compared to previous generations. She observed that newcomers in earlier periods often hesitated to engage directors or creatively influence the production process.
The actress articulated how the dynamics within Malaysian film productions have shifted remarkably, enabling performers to engage in open discussions about scenes and voice any discomfort they may have. She described this development as one of the most significant changes she has encountered during her extensive career.
Scha commended the swift enhancement in the technical and creative caliber of Malaysian films and television. She believes that local creators are now delivering content that meets high international standards, particularly regarding visual narratives, cinematography, and originality.
In discussing Kata Hati, directed by Nadiah Hamzah, Scha mentioned that the film marries romance, comedy, and action in a distinctly refreshing manner, seldom seen in the local cinema space. She plays the role of Maya, emphasizing that the film’s emotional essence centers on familial bonds and the significance of sisterhood.
According to Scha, a poignant message conveyed in the film highlights the profound connections between siblings, particularly how elder sisters often incur responsibilities akin to those of mothers. She believes that the narrative urges viewers to cherish their loved ones and mirrors genuine emotional challenges faced by many families.
Even with extensive experience in the industry, Scha intends to keep pursuing acting roles, stating that each project enhances her craft and allows her to delve into varied characters.
In addition to Kata Hati, Scha is also part of the upcoming film 5 Bomoh, helmed by Syed Fariz, and remains a prominent figure in the iQIYI series Griya, currently airing online.
