Ikkis, Agastya Nanda’s highly anticipated war drama, experienced a notable drop in box office earnings on its inaugural Monday. Early trade reports indicate the film garnered roughly Rs 1.13 crore in India, bringing its cumulative total for five days to about Rs 21.50 crore.
Helmed by renowned director Sriram Raghavan, Ikkis had an impressive opening weekend that sparked considerable interest among viewers with its compelling narrative. However, sales fluctuated over the weekend, and Monday saw a distinct decrease in ticket sales. Analysts attribute the drop not only to the typical weekday fall in numbers but also to strong competition from other films.
On Monday, Hindi film occupancy across theatres was recorded at 9.17%. Morning screenings were particularly sluggish, achieving only a 4.78% occupancy rate, which improved during the afternoon to 8.58%. Evening shows fared a bit better at 11.21%, while night performances peaked at 12.11% for the day.
In terms of regional performance, Delhi-NCR featured the highest number of Ikkis screenings, totaling 635 shows with an average occupancy of 10%. Mumbai followed closely, hosting 346 screenings with a 10.25% occupancy rate. Nationwide, the film is currently playing in over 2,000 theatres, covering significant urban and rural regions.
Despite garnering positive reviews and favorable word of mouth, Ikkis is struggling against fierce competition from the action-thriller Dhurandhar, which is enjoying robust performance even in its fourth week. Dhurandhar grossed Rs 4.5 crore on its 32nd day and is steadily nearing the Rs 800 crore mark domestically, capturing significant audience interest.
Ikkis is inspired by the life of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, India’s youngest recipient of the Param Vir Chakra, who tragically lost his life at just 21 during the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War, earning the highest military honor posthumously for his valor.
Agastya Nanda takes on the role of Arun Khetarpal, depicting the young soldier’s bravery and resolve in combat. Simar Bhatia plays Kiran, Arun’s love interest, adding a personal touch to this story of heroism.
Adding emotional weight to the film, the late Dharmendra portrays Brigadier M. L. Khetarpal (Retd.), Arun’s father. The ensemble cast also includes Jaideep Ahlawat, Suhasini Mulay, Sikander Kher, Rahul Dev, and Vivaan Shah in key roles.
Produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films, Ikkis merges a historical war narrative with emotional storytelling, aiming to pay tribute to one of India’s youngest war heroes. Although praised for its acting and direction, the film's box office trajectory underscores the hurdles it faces against well-established commercial successes.
