Father Assaulted: Man Sentenced to Jail in Singapore

Post by : Shakul

In Singapore, a 40-year-old man has been sentenced to 13 weeks in prison after being convicted of repeatedly assaulting his elderly father, age 74, and compelling him to sleep outside their residence. This harrowing case has garnered attention given the extensive abuse inflicted on the victim.

The defendant, Bennie Lee Wei Ming, confessed to numerous assault charges against his father. Prosecutors indicated that the mistreatment had persisted for several months prior to his arrest.

Throughout this time, the accused often locked his father out of their home, forcing him to sleep at the housing block's void deck. The elderly man was allowed entry only under specific conditions dictated by his son.

The court was informed that the situation escalated notably when the defendant physically assaulted his father following a disagreement. During one altercation, he was reported to have kicked and punched the victim and then continued the abuse when his demands went unmet.

Alongside the physical attacks, threats were made, including a chilling remark that matters would not resolve peacefully. The elderly victim was once again barred from entering the home, forced to remain outside overnight.

Family dynamics were also affected, as the accused’s mother had previously left the household due to ongoing conflicts and was residing separately. Additional allegations concerning violent behavior towards her were taken into account during the sentencing.

The authorities stress the gravity of such offenses, particularly emphasizing the vulnerability of the elderly in domestic abuse situations. This ruling reflects the court’s commitment to fighting domestic violence and safeguarding victims from harm in their own homes.
