Foxconn approves NT$42 billion for Taiwan AI supercomputing centre

Post by : Bianca Suleiman

Taipei — October 28, 2025:

Hon Hai Precision Industry Co Ltd, known as Foxconn, has authorised up to NT$42 billion (about US$1.37 billion) to create a new AI compute cluster and a supercomputing facility, signalling a major increase in its AI infrastructure spending.

The board gave the green light on Monday for the programme, which the company says will be financed entirely from its internal cash reserves and carried out between December 2025 and December 2026. In its formal filing, Foxconn said the project intends to "expand the cloud compute service platform and accelerate the development of the Group’s three smart platforms."

Foxconn has not disclosed an exact site for the development; however, a person familiar with the matter indicated the investment will be deployed in Taiwan. The firm has yet to share additional specifics about the location or technical specifications.

The allocation underscores Foxconn’s strategic transition from a contract electronics assembler toward a broader technology and cloud-services provider. The company has been accelerating moves into artificial intelligence and large-scale compute to lessen dependency on smartphone assembly.

Earlier in 2025, Foxconn partnered with Nvidia on an AI data centre project in Taiwan designed to operate at roughly 100 megawatts, one of the region’s largest planned facilities. It also joined forces with SoftBank on the "Stargate Project" in Ohio to manufacture advanced data-centre equipment, expanding its presence across the global AI supply chain.

With this NT$42 billion commitment, Foxconn aims to deepen its role in the AI computing ecosystem and bolster Taiwan’s position as an important hub for next-generation technology development.
