Five Key Indicators Your Body Requires More Nutrients

Post by : Saif Nasser

Our bodies frequently send us signals when they lack essential nutrition, yet many tend to overlook these subtle signs. Dr. Saurabh Sethi, a gastroenterologist with training from AIIMS, Harvard, and Stanford, shared insightful guidance on Instagram about five indicators that suggest your body may need more nutrients.

The first marker he highlighted is brittle nails. When nails break easily or appear weak, it can suggest a deficiency in protein and iron. Protein is vital for tissue repair, while iron is crucial for oxygen transport in the bloodstream. Prolonged deficiency of these nutrients can lead to weakened nails.

The second indicator is twitching in eyelids or limbs. This spontaneous muscle movement may be associated with low magnesium levels. Magnesium is critical for proper nerve and muscle functionality. Insufficient magnesium can lead to heightened nerve sensitivity and subsequent twitching.

The third indicator is the occurrence of clicking sounds in the joints. Though many consider these sounds normal, they could indicate a deficiency in vitamin D3 or calcium, both of which are important for bone health. A shortage of these nutrients may weaken joints, resulting in audible clicks during movement.

The fourth sign Dr. Sethi pointed out is early greying of hair. While many assume that early greying is purely genetic, it could also stem from inadequate levels of vitamin B12 or copper. Vitamin B12 plays a crucial role in producing healthy blood cells and supplying oxygen to hair follicles, while copper is vital for melanin production, the pigment responsible for hair color. A deficit in these nutrients may cause premature greying.

The fifth sign is the tendency to bruise easily. Frequent bruising from minor bumps or light pressure may indicate a lack of vitamin C or vitamin K1. Vitamin C is essential for collagen formation, ensuring skin and tissue durability, whereas vitamin K1 aids in blood coagulation. Insufficient amounts of these vitamins can weaken skin and lead to frequent bruising.

While these signs may appear minor, they should not be dismissed. They can serve as early alerts that the body requires a more balanced diet, rich in proteins, minerals, and vitamins. Incorporating foods such as leafy greens, nuts, fruits, dairy, eggs, and whole grains can naturally enhance nutrition levels.

However, this information is intended solely for educational purposes. Anyone noticing these signs should consult with a medical specialist or nutritionist to receive appropriate guidance. Self-diagnosing or taking supplements without professional advice can be detrimental.
