Safety Measures Rescinded Following Clearance at F.E. Warren Air Force Base

Post by : Shweta

The evacuation and shelter-in-place directives at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne have been rescinded after security personnel cleared a reported threat near Gate 1. Officials report that there is no continuing danger, although response teams will stay on-site as a precautionary measure.

The alert was initiated early Thursday morning due to a suspicious package located at the base's primary entrance. This prompted a significant emergency response, involving multiple agencies such as the Cheyenne Police, Laramie County Sheriff’s Office, and Wyoming Highway Patrol.

As a precaution, a broad security perimeter was established, necessitating shelter-in-place orders for personnel in several facilities. The base's Child Development Center efficiently relocated children to safety, and local residents were advised to vacate their homes temporarily. Officials highlighted that these measures were taken solely for public safety.

Additionally, this situation led to extensive traffic delays, including the closure of a segment of Interstate 25 for over an hour, while surrounding roads were barricaded to facilitate the investigation. Visitors to the base were rerouted to alternative access points throughout the incident.

By late morning, authorities confirmed that the package was harmless. Evacuation orders were lifted, roads reopened, and operations at the base began returning to normal. Nonetheless, Gate 1 remains closed as investigations continue.

This event underscores the stringent security measures enforced at military facilities, where potential threats are approached with heightened vigilance to ensure the safety of personnel and local communities.
