Dubai Chambers and representatives from South Africa’s Western Cape province convened recently in South Africa to explore avenues for bolstering trade and investment connections.
The discussions aimed to foster economic collaboration and unveil new prospects for enterprises in both regions. Dubai Chambers emphasized the emirate's integrated business landscape, positioning it as a vital global trade center, thus providing a key entry point for South African firms into broader markets.
Topics covered included Dubai’s role in enhancing international trade, promoting cross-border alliances, and guiding businesses towards global growth pathways.
Alan Winde, the Premier of the Western Cape, underscored the province's dedication to strengthening trade ties with the UAE, especially Dubai, for enhanced economic synergy between the areas.
He pointed out how Dubai's capabilities in finance, logistics, tourism, and innovation are aligned with the Western Cape's ambitions for economic advancement and job creation. Winde stated that collaboration could thrive in sectors such as renewable energy, agri-processing, technology, and infrastructure.
He further emphasized the Western Cape’s attractive investment landscape, highlighting political stability, modern facilities, a skilled workforce, and a solid track record of successful investments.
The meeting included Salem AlShamsi, the Executive VP of International Relations at Dubai Chambers, who reiterated the organization's commitment to boosting economic partnerships with businesses across the Western Cape and South Africa.
He highlighted the necessity of uncovering new opportunities across different sectors, enhancing the competitiveness of firms, and drawing in quality investments beneficial to both regions.
AlShamsi also mentioned the significance of forming strategic partnerships between private companies, emphasizing that such collaborations foster growth in vital sectors and reveal fresh commercial opportunities.
He noted the importance of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce's trade mission to South Africa, featuring a delegation of firms from Dubai, reflecting the essential nature of the South African market, which was Dubai’s fifth-largest trading partner in Africa last year.
AlShamsi remarked that South Africa's robust economic standing and potential for growth position it as a strategic ally for Dubai’s business sector, describing the Western Cape as a vibrant economic center with significant strengths in crucial sectors, especially food trade.
The meeting further reinforced the mutual commitment to augmenting trade and investment cooperation, fostering sustainable business arrangements, and creating new opportunities for enterprises within Dubai and the Western Cape.
These discussions were part of the broader Dubai Chamber of Commerce’s trade mission to Cape Town, dedicated to advancing Dubai-based businesses into the South African market.
