On June 3, the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) hosted its bi-annual City Briefing at Dubai Opera, attracting over 1,700 leaders from the realms of tourism, aviation, hospitality, retail, and events, alongside government officials and media.
The event, marking a record attendance, focused on fostering collaboration between public and private sectors, reviewing responses to regional developments, and laying out strategic plans to propel the city's tourism and economic growth through 2026’s second half.
His Excellency Helal Saeed Almarri, Director General of DET, highlighted Dubai's dedication to realizing the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33), which seeks to bolster the emirate's stature as a top-tier global business and tourism hub.
His Excellency Issam Kazim, CEO of the Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DCTCM), emphasized that the tourism sector benefits from strong public-private partnerships, diverse markets, and a resilient operational model, ensuring stability despite volatile regional contexts.
Officials discussed swift actions taken to safeguard Dubai’s visitor economy amid regional challenges, including activating contingency measures, collaborating closely with Emirates and flydubai for seamless travel connectivity, providing real-time guidance to tourism stakeholders, and maintaining open communication with international markets.
Additionally, the Dubai Government unveiled a substantial AED 2.5 billion support package for the tourism, hospitality, and entertainment sectors, featuring financial aid for qualifying businesses, expedited licensing processes, and job protection initiatives aimed at maintaining service quality.
Entering 2026, Dubai did so from a robust position, following a record inflow of international visitors the previous year. The city experienced a GDP uptick of 6.4 percent in Q4 2025, welcoming 95.2 million passengers at Dubai International Airport.
Industry leaders noted a collective effort among tourism businesses, with hotels implementing flexible booking policies and exclusive offers, while restaurants initiated promotional campaigns to stimulate consumer engagement.
Initiatives like "Dubai, A Fine Way to Dine" and "Dubai Restaurant Week" played a crucial role in invigorating the local food and beverage landscape, attracting both residents and visitors to diverse culinary experiences.
Looking forward, DET showcased an ambitious lineup of events for the remainder of 2026, including the much-anticipated Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) in July, featuring retail discounts, entertainment, family attractions, and dining promotions, alongside the Great Dubai Summer Sale and Summer Restaurant Week.
The city is also gearing up to celebrate the 10th edition of the Dubai Fitness Challenge, scheduled for October 31 to November 29, further solidifying its identity as a global destination for wellness and lifestyle tourism.
Additionally, significant investments in infrastructure projects are ongoing to support sustainable growth. The newly approved Gold Line Metro project will establish a 42-kilometre underground network across 15 districts, with the Blue Line on track for completion in 2029.
Moreover, the US$35 billion expansion of Al Maktoum International Airport is advancing, with aspirations to evolve it into the world's largest aviation hub.
The City Briefing culminated with a collective pledge from government and industry representatives to sustain growth, enhance competitiveness, and elevate Dubai's status as a premier global destination for tourism, business, innovation, and investment.
