Education Minister Pradhan Addresses CBSE OSM Concerns

Post by : Shakul

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has accepted accountability for discrepancies associated with the Central Board of Secondary Education’s On-Screen Marking (OSM) evaluation process. He assured students that strict measures will be implemented against those responsible for irregularities. The minister's statement follows reports of technical and payment issues impacting students during the CBSE re-evaluation and verification phases.

On Thursday, he convened a high-level meeting with CBSE officials at the board's headquarters in New Delhi to address complaints related to the OSM system. The discussions centered around errors identified during answer sheet verification, technical malfunctions, and delays in processing payment for re-evaluation requests.

Pradhan emphasized the government's commitment to addressing student concerns and ensuring accountability for any intentional negligence or misconduct. He asserted that no student’s future should be jeopardized due to administrative or technical faults within the evaluation system.

The Minister also highlighted the need for increased transparency and efficiency within the digital evaluation framework implemented by CBSE. The On-Screen Marking system was initiated to modernize the assessment of answer sheets and minimize human error, yet recent complaints have raised serious concerns among students and their parents.

During the meeting, officials explored strategies to enhance technical oversight, improve grievance handling systems, and streamline the re-evaluation process. Authorities are expected to investigate whether software-related glitches, operational errors, or procedural shortcomings led to the awareness of discrepancies.

The issue has gained political traction after Pradhan's remarks aimed at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, whom he described as “frustrated” and resistant to technological advancement, while advocating for broader digital reforms in India's education system.

Across the nation, students and parents have voiced concerns about the credibility and dependability of digital evaluation methods, especially in light of the reported irregularities. Education experts emphasize that this incident underscores the urgent need for improved quality controls and transparent review mechanisms in technology-driven examination systems.

CBSE authorities have confirmed that all complaints related to the OSM process are being thoroughly examined and corrective actions will be taken as necessary. They reiterated that safeguarding students' academic interests is the board's top priority.

This controversy has reignited discussions about balancing technological advancement with operational readiness in India's education sector, particularly during national examinations that involve millions of students each year.
