Ousmane Dembele, the French football star, was named the world’s best player of the season after winning the Ballon d’Or. The award night was a huge success for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), who dominated football this season. On the same night, Aitana Bonmati from Barcelona, who has won many awards before, took the women’s Ballon d’Or, continuing her amazing streak.
Dembele, 28, had to work hard and take time to show his full potential. PSG’s coach, Luis Enrique, guided him, and together they helped PSG win their first-ever Champions League title last season. With this award, Dembele became the sixth French player to win the Ballon d’Or and the first since Karim Benzema in 2022. He finished ahead of Spain’s young Barcelona star, Lamine Yamal, while his PSG teammate Vitinha came in third place.
During the award ceremony in Paris, Dembele expressed his joy, saying, “What I have just experienced is exceptional. I have no words for it. Winning this trophy is not easy, and having it presented by Ronaldinho, a football legend, is amazing.” Although several of his teammates were away in Marseille for a Ligue 1 match, Dembele felt their support deeply.
He also thanked PSG for believing in him when they signed him in 2023. “PSG is like a family to me. The president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, is like a father. The coach has been like a father too, and all my teammates have supported me through good and hard times. This individual award is actually a team achievement,” Dembele said, getting emotional as he thanked his mother who joined him on stage.
Dembele also remembered his first club, Stade Rennais, and the French national team. He promised to aim for another World Cup next year with the national coach, Didier Deschamps, after winning in 2018.
PSG had a remarkable season, winning a treble of major trophies: the Champions League, Ligue 1, and the French Cup. They also won the UEFA Super Cup this year. Their success was recognized with multiple awards during the ceremony. PSG was named the team of the season, their coach Luis Enrique won best coach, and goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who recently joined Manchester City, received the Yashin Trophy for best goalkeeper.
The PSG president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, praised the team’s achievements, saying, “This is the result of hard work by everyone at the club. We have young players and experienced stars, all working together for the team. This is a collective achievement.”
On the women’s side, Spain’s Aitana Bonmati, who played a key role in winning the Champions League, won the women’s Ballon d’Or for the third consecutive year. England’s Dutch manager, Sarina Wiegman, was named women’s coach of the year after leading her team to the European title.
Overall, the award night celebrated individual brilliance and team success. PSG’s domination in football this season, both in domestic and international competitions, was highlighted by these recognitions, showing that hard work, teamwork, and dedication can lead to both personal and collective glory.
The awards also underline the growing impact of young stars and experienced professionals working together to make football exciting for fans around the world. Fans and players alike celebrated this historic moment, making it a night to remember for football lovers everywhere.
