DP World, a leading global trade and logistics company, has joined hands with Kenya’s electronic services platform, eCitizen, to introduce a new, advanced digital customs system called CARGOES Customs. The move aims to make importing and exporting goods in Kenya faster, safer, and more efficient for traders, merchants, and government authorities.
The partnership was officially formalized through a long-term agreement signed in Nairobi. With this system, importers, exporters, and authorized customs agents in Kenya will gain access to one of the most advanced customs management platforms in the world. The platform allows customs declarations to be handled digitally, reducing paperwork and making the entire process smoother.
Mahmood AlBastaki, the Chief Operating Officer of Digital Trade Solutions at DP World, highlighted the importance of this partnership. He said that combining DP World’s technology with Kenya’s eCitizen services is a significant step toward improving trade in the country. “Our advanced technology will make trade faster, safer, and more transparent for everyone involved. CARGOES Customs is a key tool for facilitating digital trade, and we will continue developing smarter systems to support global supply chains,” he added.
The eCitizen platform already plays a vital role in Kenya’s trade ecosystem. It allows businesses and citizens to pay for Kenya Ports Authority services online using digital wallets or bank transfers. With the introduction of CARGOES Customs, traders and government agencies will now benefit from a modern alternative to the older customs system managed by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA). This next-generation system will speed up customs clearance and reduce delays at ports.
Another key feature of the new platform is its support for the Kenya Revenue Authority’s Customs Department. The system includes AI-based tools that help customs officials identify risks, improve inspection processes, enhance revenue collection, and ensure compliance with trade regulations. This will make operations more efficient and accurate, benefiting both the government and businesses.
Evid Sibi, Director of eCitizen, emphasized the significance of the collaboration. “At eCitizen, our mission is to simplify complex processes into transparent and practical solutions. Partnering with DP World allows us to deliver a state-of-the-art digital customs platform that boosts Kenya’s digital transformation. Together, we can help customs officials, traders, and government agencies work more efficiently and open up new opportunities for growth,” he said.
This initiative is part of DP World’s global Digital Trade Solutions strategy, which focuses on providing governments and businesses with digital tools to streamline trade, enhance compliance, and improve connectivity in supply chains worldwide. By rolling out CARGOES Customs in Kenya, DP World aims to support the country in building a modern, secure, and efficient trade ecosystem that keeps pace with global standards.
Overall, this development is expected to transform trade in Kenya. Businesses will experience faster customs clearance, reduced paperwork, and safer transactions. Government authorities will have better tools for monitoring trade, collecting revenue, and ensuring compliance. The collaboration marks a milestone in Kenya’s journey toward full digital trade facilitation, making the country more competitive and connected in the global market.
